Oh hai there did you miss me?! Sorry for being AWOL but last week was full of ups and downs. The first weekend in July my best friend Jen, her boyfriend Rich and adorable baby Harry crossed the channel and stayed with me for a fun French experience. We went to a family BBQ involving lassoing plastic garden furniture (I’m still not really sure why but was fun and perfectly normal at the time!), ate snails and steak, explored an old French flour mill, braved the rain at the local market, took walks to the beach, got to know a few cases of French red wine VERY well, gossiped like two old ladies and cooed over the little man. It was fab but for some stupid reason none of this got captured in photos. I guess we were just having too much fun that it wasn’t until she left we realised we didn’t get one pic together. MAJOR fail!
However, after they left to continue their family hol in Brittany I got sick. Thank god it was holding out until they had gone but I have spent the tail end of last week moping about, sleeping and feeling like a deflated party balloon. It’s not much fun having to rely on google translate to ask for medicine at the pharmacy. Turns out my French has gone out of the window as in my fuggy head space I could barely string a coherent sentence in English let alone parlez vous francais.
I decided to just give in and sleep off what the pharmacist said was gastroenteritis and not beat myself up too much that I hadn’t blogged for a whole week, hadn’t been writing, hadn’t been planning our South American trip etc etc. You know when you feel like crap stressing about all the things you know you should be doing takes up most of your energy!
After being dosed up on French medicine, nearly drowning myself in water and sticking to boring natural plain food – dry baguette and banana anyone? I am finally feeling back to happy Katy again. Whilst I was tucked up in bed and to give my mind some light relief I thought I would share with you what put a smile back on my pale sad sally chops during the week.
Watching:
Football, namely the thrashing of Brazil by Germany. Ok I am not into football whatsoever but the World Cup does have that different excitement about it and a game with 8 ruddy goals in definitely caught and kept my weary headed interest!
Prison Break – I told you here about my love of a good box set but I hadn’t paid much attention to Prison Break when it first aired, it was only after watching Zoella talk about this show that reminded me to give it a go. Well two seasons later I am really enjoying the suspense and intrigue of hunky brooding Wentworth Miller try to break his man mountain of a brother out of an American Prison.
Reading:
Birth in the Wild article - So it started off with this pregnant lady who took the term ‘natural labor’ to a whole new level by giving birth in complete jungle wilderness (no pain relief, help, or shelter) as her hubbie filmed it all and posted the graphic vid to YouTube. Over 22million views later a USA reality show has been born (pun intended) to invite other adventurous mums-to-be to do the same.
Books, books and more books!– It has been a while since I updated you on all the lovely books I have been filling my head with but don’t you worry my little bookworms as I have a post coming later this week including The Sea Sisters by Lucy Clarke and The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty.
Thinking:
Working out all the calories and wine I have missed out on during the past few days surely must count as some sort of detox?
Daydreaming about how I can factor in a trip to Lake Titicaca (which is worth a visit for the name alone!) and the World’s largest salt flat plains but getting too nervous about going to Bolivia when we visit South Am. Am I being a chicken or sensible I just can’t decide?
So tell me ALL I have missed and how have you been?
