It is so important to have a cheerleader in your life. I don’t mean nab a preppy teenage girl and force her to perform with pom poms and high kicks, but instead have people close to you who will cheer you on in all you hope to achieve in life. Give me an O, give me a K ….
A cheerleader is someone who totally believes in you. Any idea you have, no matter how out of the blue it might seem, they are 100% behind you BUT equally as confident with telling you when you need to calm it down or change tactics. I don’t mean someone who will tell you everything you do is wonderful. They need to be realistic, as even Beyonce has flaws, I hope. You need someone who will cheer you on when you’ve decided to follow your dreams, someone who will pep you back up when you hit stumbling blocks along the way, and someone who gives both practical and emotional support in this crazy thing called life.
They are not here to lick your ass.
I bet you already have this special person/people in your life, you just may not have realised the power these cheerleaders have. For most they look to family members, close friends or certain colleagues as their cheerleaders. You know the saying surround yourself with positive people? Well this is where your cheerleader shimmys in.
However, it’s also important for YOU to be a cheerleader for others, this is a two way street my friend. You can’t expect them to be there for you, encouraging you, but you do nothing or little to support them. Uh uh.
Think of a cheerleader as a good bra, if you will…. They are supportive, provide comfort, hold you up when you start to sag and make you look good. Now return the favour.
I’m lucky I can count on my mum, sister, best friend, aunt and cousin to all be there for me. I don’t know where I’d be without my team of cheerleaders. I doubt I’d be living my life the way I am now. Saying yes to things, finishing my first novel, doing a skydive for my 30th birthday, travelling the world, and living in a foreign country. I achieved all these things because I have this incredible team behind me cheering me on, I don’t take these people for granted.
So this weekend why not tell your cheerleader how important they are to you, ask them how you can support them in whatever they want to achieve? Work together on new projects and ideas. Once you find this person in your life there will be no stopping you! (pom poms are optional).
