I have a love/hate relationship with twitter. Ok, so that’s not the sort of thing any self-respecting travel blogger should admit to but it’s true. I go through phases where I am all over that shizz tweeting like a canary, then times when I must have run out of things to say and my posts dry up.
The thing that I do love about this site, which will never change, is the people on there. The many followers I’ve never met and am probably likely to never meet in real life but who make me happy. The tiny insight I get into these people’s lives and the pictures I build up in my mind about them. I also love the whole sharing is caring vibe. The campaigns that seemingly start out of nowhere by Joe Bloggs in a small town that can snowball into a worldwide media frenzy pulling at peoples heartstrings. The way you can spread love, support and put-a-smile-on-your-face gifs in an instant.
I also love how a simple tweet can make things happen. The latest example that happened to me was one of my twitter friends Gemma Tizzard (@gemtizz) spotted a shout out by a journalist at Wanderlust magazine looking for people who have experience in learning another language to chat to. Amazingly, @gemtizz thought of me (sending huge squishy virtual hugs). A couple of tweets later and I was doing an interview for the August edition!
So, when I was back in the UK recently I made sure I whizzed into WHSmiths and picked up a copy. In the article I share my tips and tricks to learning a foreign language, the obstacles and frustrations you will inevitably face and ways in which you too can parlez in a foreign tongue.
Wanting to learn a new language? I go more in-depth on how I succeeded in training myself to speak French (seriously it’s as exhausting as going to the gym - well, kinda) in this blog post and also the fun and games that came with trying to learn Spanish in Peru. Spoiler Alert - There were tears.
So yeah, twitter you’re pretty cool.
