If like me you are currently grieving for the loss of your favourite show Breaking Bad then you should enjoy today’s post as I get nostalgic and throw a surprise BrBa birthday dinner party. I won’t go into detail explaining the show as if you don’t know the plot you need to get watching series one asap. Yo. Bitch.
I decked the room in yellow balloons, copies of the periodic table, and stuck Heisenberg and missing Walter White posters (just dowloaded from a Google search) around the walls. To decorate the table I used a bin bag covered with fake 100 euro bills (hard to find dollars in France), bottle of bleach, chilli powder for Jesse’s signature ingredient and rubber gloves. I probably spent too long decorating the room and not enough time planning the food but it was a fairly easy menu to prepare. For an aperitif I prepared a blue ice cocktail which consisted of vodka, blue curacao, lime juice and Fanta served with Jesse’s favourite crisps - funyans which I couldn’t get in France but onion rings and cheesy wotsits were the next best thing.
To start we had mini pizza like a smaller version of the one Walter White had on the roof of his house. To I wanted to make it as chemistry themed as possible so I added ketchup and mustard in pipettes to be squeezed out as a side dip.
The main course was Los Pollos chicken and chips. I didn’t have Gus’s secret recipe but I did attempt crispy chicken myself although I cheated and brought oven chips. For the chicken recipe I just dipped the chicken in egg then added breadcrubs, salt, and garlic powder before baking in the oven for 30-40 minutes. It was so easy to make and didn’t have that greasy fried texture but was more crispy mmm. I didn’t have a Los Pollos burger box but got these cute wire baskets to serve them in. Hidden inside was a bag of meth. Ok rock salt with blue food dye served in a button bag. I printed off the Los Pollos logo and wrapped it around a plastic cup filled with soda/wine to wash it all down with. You could also use any of the cups you get in fast food restaurants as I think with a lid and straw it would have looked even more authentic.
I got a lot of inspiration from Brownie Bites where I found these little cake toppers which I used as decorations stuck on cocktail sticks and mini chalkboards.
I am a big fan of Pinterest (you can follow me here) and saw these cute cupcakes in a los pollos wrapper which you can download free from here. As you can see I nailed it. Err. Ok so they may not look that great but they tasted ok especially with the topping of crushed crystal meth/crushed blue peppermints.
We needed to be properly dressed for the occasion so donned unfetching but oh-so-comfortable decorating jumpsuits.
After completing a Breaking Bad quiz I had prepared we ended the night watching our favourite episodes. I hope this has given you some ideas to throw your own Breaking Bad party.
Are you a fan of the show? How have you coped now it is over?
