Happy Friday everyone!
So Spring has sprung and it’s not just the birds who seem a little more chirpy, it feels like everyone is well up for some early sun as I have been seeing a lot of people wearing a lot less clothing even though we are still in March. Can’t knock them for being positive I guess.
To keep us in this happy mood I wanted to tell you about the last book I have read and one of the first in a long while to have me laughing out loud, which always follows with a cringe as you realise that yes you are the mad cackling woman alone with a book. Also lets just look at this sunny yellow cover, how can this not make you feel Spring-like?!
‘How to Get a (Love) Life’ - Rosie Blake
Sometimes we all need a little push with our love life especially as the dating scene can be a scary place.
Meet Nicola, who lives a very organised and plainly boring life. She is encouraged/forced into making changes in her mundane lifestyle by her colleague Caroline who wants her to find true love for the next Valentine’s day. What starts off as a fun dare to get her back on the dating scene then turns into a series of amusing adventures and dating disasters, including my favourite of a guy who takes her kayaking on a freezing cold lake and acts more like a drill sergeant than a romantic rendezvous.
I really enjoyed seeing Nicola change and become more open to new experiences as well as realising the changes that were occurring inside her including straying from her weekly food rota and cracking open a bottle of wine because she fancied a glass rather than because it wasn’t on her schedule. I think we could all take lessons from her to experience more that life has to offer rather than stay in our cosy comfort zone. Yes scary, strange and amazing things may occur but they won’t all be bad and you will definitely have a great story to tell afterwards!
It didn’t take me long to finish the book as I found myself wanting to see what would happen to Nicola, especially as author Rosie Blake has such a witty and comic way of writing, it felt like I was picking up from a friend telling me about her love life. I’m a bit gutted that I have finished it as it’s like losing a mate, don’t you hate it when that happens in books!
If you are into fun stories which can inspire you to look at your own life and encourage you to not take things too seriously then I would urge you to pick up a copy today. Which is super easy especially if you own a Kindle as ‘How to get a (love) life’ is currently just the teeny tiny price of 89p! Check it out here.
Next week I will be chatting to the lovely author Rosie Blake who will be sharing her tips for budding novelists. In the meantime you can find her here so pop by and say hi.
